Importance of team building

Goal-oriented groups should learn how to constantly choose, develop and encourage each other to perform according to the relative strengths and weaknesses of each member. Team building recognizes the need for groups or organizations to identify themselves fully to improve overall effectiveness and competence. The process will include personal, physical and mental motivational activities that result to skilled members and able leaders.

Team building is very important in the work setting to successfully achieve a variety of tasks and let corporations and organizations get into the next level. Over time, workers, executives and students need to assess their talents and capabilities to know which areas each individual excel in.

Traditional team building activities usually include ice breakers and group games that allow team members to get to know each other better as well as create a more friendly but competitive environment. Examples would be rope games and tic-tac-toe games. Although these are fun and require team effort to play, the message behind may not be fully translated by individuals as to how it can be beneficial or applied in the workplace or household. Some players may do more parts in the task while others sit and observe in the background if they do not have much to contribute. The games may only be a form of orientation and introduction between members at best.

Team building needs to focuses on bringing out the best in each member of the team through group-dynamic activities. The treasure hunt is an activity that encourages teams to make a collective effort to finish a variety of tasks. Each team is provided with a detailed map and compass which they will use to navigate through given areas to unlock clues and hopefully find the key that will ultimately take them to the coveted treasure chest. Each member participates equally to successfully finish a task and rewards are distributed evenly as well.

The collaborative effort can effectively be understood and translated the workplace for continuous growth and development. Each task in the treasure hunt can be compared to real life assignments that require both physical and mental prowess. Corporations and organizations will need to rely on the strengths of each member to finish jobs that will lead to major improvements and rewards similar to the treasure chest.
